Organize and Search
Use Inbox, Discover, Archive, search, and bulk actions.
Recalio keeps organization simple. Most items live in one of three places: Inbox, Discover, or Archive.
Inbox
Inbox is your active reading list. Use it for things you chose and still plan to read.
Open an item to read it. Use the card menu or reader controls to archive or delete it. Items from feeds and newsletters can also be moved back to Discover when you decide they are not ready for Inbox.
Inbox can be filtered by read state, text, author, or domain.
Discover
Discover is for incoming feeds and newsletters. It helps you skim new material before it becomes part of your real reading list.
Use Add to Inbox when something is worth reading closely. Use Seen when you have looked at something and do not need it in the new-items view anymore.
Open Sources to filter by one feed, one newsletter, all feeds, or all newsletters.
Archive
Archive is for things you are done with or want to keep out of Inbox.
Archived items are not deleted. You can still search them, open them, read their notes and highlights, and move them back to Inbox.
Read, unread, seen, and unseen
Inbox and Archive use read and unread.
Discover uses seen and unseen because it is often used for skimming. Seen means you have already looked at the item in Discover. It does not mean you finished reading it.
Select several items
Inbox, Discover, and Archive let you select multiple cards.
Use multi-select when you want to clean up a list quickly:
- In Inbox, archive or delete selected items.
- In Discover, add selected items to Inbox or mark them seen.
- In Archive, move selected items back to Inbox or delete them.
You can shift-click, long-press on touch devices, or drag across empty grid space to select multiple cards.
Search
Use the search button or press Cmd+K on Mac and Ctrl+K on Windows or Linux.
Type plain words when you want Recalio to search broadly:
summer recipe
Search can find items across Inbox, Archive, Discover, feeds, newsletters, and highlights.
Search one place
Start with a shortcut when you already know where to look:
!inbox recipe
!archive taxes
!discovery travel
!feeds cooking
!newsletters school
!highlights memory
Useful shortcuts:
| Shortcut | Looks in |
|---|---|
!inbox | Inbox |
!archive | Archive |
!discovery | Discover |
!feeds | Feeds |
!newsletters | Newsletter senders |
!highlights | Highlighted documents |
Search filters
You can add simple filters when a search is too broad:
!inbox is:unread recipe
!archive from:alice
!discovery travel
Supported filters:
| Filter | Example |
|---|---|
| Read state | is:read or is:unread |
| Author or sender | from:alice |
| Website | domain:nytimes.com |
Plain search is enough most of the time. Use filters when your library gets larger.
What common actions mean
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Archive | Moves an item out of Inbox without deleting it. |
| Seen | Hides a Discover item from the new-items view. |
| Mastered | Keeps a highlight but stops showing it in Recall. |
| Delete | Removes the item or highlight from your library. |
| Unsubscribe | Stops future items from that feed or newsletter when available. |
Keep things tidy
Use Inbox for your real reading queue, Discover for incoming streams, and Archive for finished items. Delete only when you no longer want the item or its saved content.
